What to do during an earthquake!

Nowadays we have to be always prepared because we never know when an earthquake strikes. Here are some guidelines on what to do when there is an earthquake.

Protect yourself during an earthquake by following 3 simple steps:

IF YOU ARE INDOORS

1. DROP - drop down to the ground when shaking starts.

2. COVER - take cover by getting under a sturdy table or desk while covering your head and neck.

3. HOLD - hold on until the shaking stops.

Wherever you go, you must protect yourself. Stay away from glass, windows, walls, hanging lights and furnitures or anything that could fall. Turn off the electricity or the main power switch of your house to avoid electrecution (just in case). If you are in your bed, hold on and protect your head with a pillow, but if there are lighting fixtures or furnitures that might fall on your bed move to the nearest safe place like under a strong table or desk.

If you are in a building, use the stairs and not the elevator. Do not leave your house / room (if you're in a building) unless it is safe to go out but if you feel that your house / building might give in or collapse because of the strong quake, make sure you get out of your house / building fast and find a safe place to stay ouside.

IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE:

Just stay outside. Move away from buildings, electric posts, streetlights and billboards. Once you're in the open, stay there and wait until the earthquake stops.
